01Who you are agreeing with
Cinemere is operated by Cinemere AB, based in Sweden. It is registered under company number —. Its registered address is —, —. In these terms, "Cinemere", "we" and "us" mean that company. "You" means the member using the service. You can reach us at any time at [email protected], and section 20 lists every other route.
These terms form a binding agreement between you and us the moment you create an account or, if you already had one, the moment you accept them in the app. They cover the website, the installable app, and every feature inside them.
They are written in English. If we publish a translation and the two versions disagree, the English version governs, except where the law of your home country says otherwise.
02Who may use Cinemere
You must be at least 16 years old to have a Cinemere account. We ask for your year of birth when you join, and we do not knowingly keep accounts for anyone younger. If we learn that a member is under the age limit, we close the account and delete the data.
We chose 16 rather than the lowest age the law allows because Cinemere has private messaging, and running one honest age rule is better than running twenty-seven we cannot verify. It is not a judgement about younger film lovers.
You also agree that:
- you will give accurate information when you sign up, and keep your email address current so we can reach you about your account;
- you will use one account for yourself, and you will not sell, rent or hand it to someone else;
- if we have banned you, you will not come back under a new handle. Evading a ban is itself a breach of these terms;
- you are not barred from using our service under any applicable sanctions or law.
03Your account
Keep your password to yourself, and pick one you do not use elsewhere. Tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else has got into your account. We will never ask you for your password.
You are responsible for what happens under your account, unless someone used it without your knowledge and it was not your fault that they could.
04What Cinemere is
Cinemere is a place to track what you watch, write about it, build lists, and talk to other members about film and television. The Oracle suggests titles based on the taste signals you give it. Nothing on Cinemere is a professional recommendation, and we do not promise that a suggestion will suit you.
We are still building. Features can change, move or be withdrawn. Where a change materially reduces what a paid plan gives you, section 12 tells you what we do about it.
Cinemere is not a streaming service. We show you what a title is and where it can be watched, and you watch it wherever you subscribe.
The Oracle is not artificial intelligence, and we will not call it that. It is a deterministic rule engine. It reads the words you type, matches them against a fixed list of patterns we wrote by hand, turns that into a search query over the film and television catalogue, and shows you what comes back. The same question always produces the same query.
Concretely, that means Cinemere contains no machine learning model of any kind: no trained model, no embeddings, no vector database, no inference, and no connection to any third-party AI service. When The Oracle appears to think for a moment, that is a loading animation. When its reply appears word by word, that is a display effect, not a machine composing a sentence.
Nothing you watch, log, write or search is used to train, fine-tune, validate or evaluate any model, by us or by anyone else, and catalogue data is never sent to a model. Your taste profile is arithmetic over your own entries, and it stays on Cinemere. If that ever changes we will tell you before it does, not after.
05Your content and your rights in it
You own what you write. Your reviews, lists, takes, poll questions, quizzes and messages remain yours. We claim no ownership over them and we will never sell them.
To actually run the service we need your permission to handle that content. So you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, copy, display, adapt for formatting, and share your content within Cinemere, to the audience you chose when you posted it. That is the whole scope. It exists so your review can appear on a title page and your list can be seen by the members you shared it with.
This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, with two honest exceptions we would rather state than hide:
- a message you sent to another member stays in their copy of the conversation, exactly as a sent email stays in the recipient's inbox;
- copies can survive in our encrypted backups for up to 56 days before they age out. They are never restored to the live service.
You confirm that you have the right to post what you post, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.
Cinemere has no file upload of any kind. There is no photo picker, no attachment button and no image URL field anywhere in the product. Every picture you see is artwork from the film and television catalogue. That is deliberate: it removes non-consensual imagery, unlawful uploads and copyright infringement as possibilities rather than as things we have to police after the fact.
06Community Guidelines
These are the rules of the house. They apply to everything you write on Cinemere: posts, takes, reviews, comments, list and club names, quiz questions, your profile, and your direct messages. Breaking them can cost you your content, your account, or both. Section 07 explains exactly how we decide.
Never, under any circumstances
- Sexual content involving minors, in any form, real or drawn. We remove it, ban the account permanently, preserve the evidence and report it to the authorities. There is no warning and no second chance.
- Threats of violence against a person or a group, incitement to violence, or celebrating it.
- Encouraging suicide or self-harm. If you are struggling, we would far rather you reached out than that we removed you. Writing about your own experience is not what this rule is for.
- Hate directed at people for their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, disease, age, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity, including slurs used as insults.
- Sexual harassment, or sharing intimate content about someone without their consent.
- Terrorist or violent extremist content, or material promoting an organisation that carries it out.
Do not
- Harass or bully a member. Disagreeing with someone's five-star rating is the point of this place. Following them around to make them miserable is not.
- Post someone's private information: home address, phone number, workplace, identity documents.
- Impersonate a person, a company, or Cinemere itself, or claim a verification you do not have.
- Spam: bulk unsolicited messages, engagement farming, referral schemes, scams, phishing, or pushing a paid service into members' inboxes.
- Break the law, or use Cinemere to arrange something illegal.
- Attack the service: scraping at scale, automated account creation, probing for vulnerabilities without permission, or circumventing rate limits and access controls.
- Deliberately spoil a plot outside a spoiler tag. Not a legal matter, but very much a Cinemere one.
What we will not remove
- A harsh review. Cinemere is a criticism platform. A one-star take on a beloved film is protected here, however unpopular it makes you.
- Discussion of difficult films. Writing seriously about violence, sex, abuse or extremism in cinema is not the same as promoting it, and we will not confuse the two.
- Disagreement with us. Criticising Cinemere, our moderation or our prices is not a violation.
If you are unsure whether something crosses a line, ask us at [email protected] before you post it.
07How we moderate
The law requires us to tell you clearly what tools we use to police content, how decisions get made, and by whom. Here it is in full.
What is automated
Every post, take, comment, direct message, story and club message passes through an automated word filter on our server before it is saved. It works on the text only. It has two settings:
- a hard match, meaning an unambiguous slur or an explicit threat, is refused. The message is not published, and a report is filed automatically for a human to look at.
- a soft match is published normally but flagged for human review.
The filter normalises spacing, repeated letters and character substitutions, so obvious attempts to slip past it do not work. It is tuned for precision over reach: we would rather miss a borderline case and have a person catch it than block ordinary film conversation. No account is ever suspended or banned by the filter alone. A human makes every decision about a person.
What is human
Reports from members, and anything the filter flags, go into a moderation queue. A member of our Trust and Safety team reads the reported content, reads the context, checks the account's history, and decides. We aim to give a first response within the times below, counted from when the report reaches us.
What we can do about it
We act proportionately, and we start at the lowest step that fits. Deciding that nothing was wrong is a normal and common outcome: over-removal is its own harm, and we treat it as one.
What we do not do
- We do not use your content to train advertising or profiling systems. Cinemere runs no advertising at all.
- We do not read your direct messages, except when a specific message is reported to us or is refused by the filter, and then only that message.
- We do not remove content because someone influential asked us to. Only the guidelines and the law decide.
08Reporting content to us
Anyone can tell us about content on Cinemere they believe is illegal or breaks these terms. You do not need an account to do it.
- Inside the app: the overflow menu on any post, take, comment, message, story or profile, then Report. Pick a reason and add context.
- By email: write to [email protected]. Tell us exactly where the content is, why you believe it is unlawful or breaches the guidelines, and how to reach you. If you are reporting on behalf of a rights holder or an authority, say so.
When a report reaches us we confirm receipt to you without undue delay. When we have decided, we tell you the outcome and the grounds for it. If you gave us an email address we use it; if you reported from inside the app, the confirmation and the outcome arrive in your notifications.
Please report in good faith. Reports that are knowingly false waste the time we owe to real ones, and we may restrict the reporting ability of anyone who files them repeatedly.
09Decisions, reasons and appeals
If we remove something you posted, or restrict your account, we tell you. You get a clear statement that sets out:
- what we did, and to which piece of content or which account;
- whether it was removed because it is unlawful or because it breaks these terms, and which rule specifically;
- whether the decision came from an automated tool, from a human, or from a human acting on an automated flag;
- whether it started from a report by someone else or from our own checks;
- how to challenge it.
The only case where we do not send that statement is where the law forbids us from tipping someone off, for example while a criminal investigation is running.
Appealing
You can appeal any decision for six months from the day we told you about it, either from the notice itself in your notifications or by writing to [email protected]. Tell us why you think we got it wrong.
A person reviews every appeal, and never the same person whose decision is being appealed where we can avoid it. No appeal is decided by an automated system. We aim to answer within 14 days. If we agree with you, we restore the content or lift the restriction, and we say so on the record.
If you are still not satisfied
You can take the dispute to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body under Article 21 of the Digital Services Act. You can also complain about us to Post- och telestyrelsen (PTS), the Digital Services Coordinator for Sweden (pts.se). Neither route costs you the right to go to court.
10Plans, prices and payment
Cinemere has a free plan that stays free. The paid plans add features and support the running of the service.
The price shown to you at checkout is the price you pay. It includes VAT at the rate of your country of residence, which we collect and remit under the EU one-stop-shop scheme. The exact amount and rate appear on your receipt.
How payment works
Payments are handled by Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd.. Your card details never reach Cinemere's servers. They go directly to Stripe, which is certified to the highest level of the payment card security standard. We receive only a token, the last four digits, the card brand, the expiry date, and whether the charge succeeded.
Payments inside the EEA use strong customer authentication, so your bank may ask you to confirm the payment, in Sweden typically with BankID. Where we offer both immediate payment methods and credit-based ones, the immediate method is shown first and no credit option is preselected.
A receipt is issued for every charge and sent to your account email address. It shows the seller, our company and VAT numbers, the date, what you bought, the amount, and the VAT.
Renewal
A paid plan renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel it, and the card on file is charged on the renewal date. We email you before we charge a renewal if the price has changed, and always at least 30 days ahead of any increase.
11Your right to change your mind
As a consumer in the EU or EEA you have 14 days from the day you buy a digital service to withdraw from the purchase, without giving a reason.
Because a Cinemere subscription unlocks immediately, checkout asks you to do two things: expressly ask us to start right away, and acknowledge that once we have fully performed, you lose the right to withdraw. That box is not pre-ticked. If you leave it unticked we simply wait out the 14 days before your plan starts.
If you asked us to start immediately and then withdraw inside the 14 days, you pay only for the part of the period you actually had, and we refund the rest.
To withdraw, write to [email protected], or cancel in Settings and say that you are withdrawing. Any refund goes back to the payment method you used, within 14 days of us being told.
12Cancelling and price changes
Cancel any time, in two taps, in Settings. There is no phone call, no retention offer and no cancellation fee. Cancelling stops the next renewal. Your plan keeps working until the end of the period you have already paid for, and then drops to the free plan. Your diary, lists and account stay exactly as they are.
We do not refund an unused part of a period you chose to cancel, beyond what section 11 or the law gives you. We do refund you in full if we charged you in error, and we will not argue about it.
If we raise the price, or materially reduce what a paid plan includes, we tell you at least 30 days beforehand by email. You can cancel before it takes effect, and if you do, you pay nothing more. If you carry on, the new terms apply from the date we gave you.
13Suspension and closure
You can close your account whenever you like, from Settings or from the privacy page, without asking us. It deletes your data as described in the Privacy Notice.
We can suspend or close your account if you breach these terms, following section 07, or if we are required to by law. Except where the breach is grave or the law forbids it, we warn you first and give you the chance to put it right.
If you had a paid plan and we closed your account for a reason that was not your fault, we refund the unused part. If we closed it for a breach that was, we do not.
If we ever discontinue Cinemere altogether, we will give you at least 60 days notice by email, stop charging immediately, refund any period you have paid for and not received, and keep the export tool running to the last day so you can take your library with you.
14Privacy
What we collect, why, on what legal basis, how long we keep it, and how you get it back or get rid of it, is set out in the Privacy Notice, which forms part of this agreement. In short: your account and activity live on our own server in the EU, we run no advertising, no analytics and no third-party trackers, and we have never sold member data and will not.
15Catalogue data and trade marks
Film and television metadata, posters and artwork come from third-party catalogues and remain the property of their owners.
This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. Currently-airing television data by TVmaze, used under CC BY-SA 4.0.
The ShareAlike condition in that licence applies to adapted TVmaze material. Showing their listings alongside another catalogue is a collection, not an adaptation, so it places no licence on Cinemere itself or on anything you write here. If we ever publish a dataset derived from theirs, that dataset will carry the same licence.
Catalogue data is used to show you titles, and for nothing else. It is never used to train or validate a machine learning system, and it is never sent to one. Section 04 explains how The Oracle works and why there is no such system in Cinemere at all.
The names and logos of streaming services appear only to tell you where a title can be watched, or to let you record which services you subscribe to. They belong to their owners, and their appearance does not mean those companies are affiliated with, sponsor, or endorse Cinemere.
"Cinemere", the Ember Horizon mark, "The Oracle" and the design of this service belong to us. You may not copy them, or use them in a way that suggests we endorse you. Everything else on Cinemere belongs to the member who wrote it.
If you believe content on Cinemere infringes your copyright, write to [email protected] identifying the work, where the infringing material is, and your contact details. Note that Cinemere accepts no uploads, so member content is text plus catalogue artwork.
16Availability and liability
We work hard to keep Cinemere up, but we do not promise it will be available without interruption or free of faults. We may take it down for maintenance, and we will try to do that at quiet hours.
Cinemere is provided as it is. We do not warrant that a recommendation will suit you, that catalogue data is accurate, or that a title is available on the service the catalogue says it is.
Where we do accept responsibility
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, for intent or gross negligence, or for anything else the law does not let us limit. As a consumer you keep every mandatory right your national law gives you, including your rights when a digital service is not supplied as agreed. Those rights sit above this agreement, and this section does not touch them.
Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows: we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profits, for lost data where you could reasonably have kept your own copy through the export tool, or for what other members do. For a paid plan, our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before it arose. For the free plan, where you have paid us nothing, our liability is limited to what the law requires of us.
We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events genuinely outside our control, such as an outage at an upstream provider. That does not excuse us from refunding you for a service you paid for and did not get.
17Accessibility
We want Cinemere to be usable by everyone. Every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard with a visible focus indicator, the interface respects your system setting for reduced motion, colour contrast is tuned for readability rather than for screenshots, and the custom cursor never replaces a real one for people who need it.
If something on Cinemere is hard or impossible for you to use, tell us at [email protected] and describe what happened and what you were using. We treat accessibility reports as bugs, not as feature requests.
18Changes to these terms
We can change these terms, for example to reflect a new feature, a new law, or a clearer way of saying something.
For a material change, meaning one that affects your rights or obligations, we give you at least 30 days notice by email and in the app before it takes effect, and we ask you to accept the new version. If you would rather not, you can close your account, and if you had paid for a period you have not used, we refund it.
For a correction that does not change what anything means, we simply publish it and update the version at the top of this page. We keep the version history, so you can always ask us what you agreed to and when.
19Law and disputes
Swedish law governs this agreement. If you are a consumer resident in another EEA country, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of your own country, and nothing here takes that away.
Talk to us first, at [email protected]. Most things are a misunderstanding, and we would rather fix it than argue about it.
If that does not work, as a consumer you can take a dispute to:
- Allmanna reklamationsnamnden (ARN), the Swedish National Board for Consumer Disputes, at arn.se. We take part in its proceedings and follow its recommendations.
- the EU online dispute resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
- the courts of your own country of residence, which you can always do instead.
For matters about your personal data, you can complain to Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY) or to the supervisory authority where you live. For matters about content moderation, to Post- och telestyrelsen (PTS).
